The way that the ranks work is pretty simple. It is organized similar to our videos and/or to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu belts. Once you have made your first post you will receive your White Belt. You will remain a White Belt until you have made 20 posts. Upon making your 20th post, you will be promoted to a Blue Belt. Here you will remain until your 40th post, at which time you will be promoted to a Purple Belt. After you have made your 75th post, you will receive your Brown Belt. When you have reached your Brown Belt, you will be eligible for moderator and/or administrator status in the forums. You will remain a Brown Belt until you have made your 125th post, which is when you will be awarded your Black Belt. This will take quite a while to accomplish, but hey-- IT SHOULD!

It's primarily to establish some sort of experience level in the forums. If someone asks a question about a feature on the site, and a brown belt answers- then chances are he's been around the site a good bit more than a white belt. After someone becomes a black belt, they are eligible to be added as a moderator. This is because once they have committed that much time to the site, they are probably a good enough guy to help me run small parts of it. This takes a lot of the load off of me and allows me to focus on other parts of the site.
