I was wondering, how do you fight against someone who is a rusher in MMA and on the street?

Can you please elaborate on what a "rusher" is?

umm Someone who always runs to you swinging haymakers and/or Mike Swick type punches. Never backs down, ALWAYS going forward not caring if they get hit or if their technique is good, so long as they are swinging for the fences.
Basically someone who charges in and throw wild punches

Remember your footwork. Correct steps ALWAYS. Not backing straight up EVER. Gain inside control in the clinch and let them swing from the outside. If worse comes to worse, dip and then take a shot for the double leg takedown.
All in all- watch Chuck Liddell... He's the master of killing the "rusher."

on the street you can always throw a knee to the groin. block one of their punches then put one in the family jewels. if they dont care about taking one in the kisser they surely wont see the knee coming. graceful? no effective? yes. if youre not getting paid for a fight or your rep is not on the line why spend more energy than you have to. doing it in the cage requires a little more strategy and tact.

I can't agree more. If you back up straight you will just get bowled over. A well-timed counter strike can disrupt the person's momentum and give you at least a second of breathing room so you are not overwhelmed. Smothering them in a clinch is good, if your clinch game is good they will blow their wad trying to struggle and keep attacking and have nothing much left after that.
It all comes down to training, if you don't practice being confronted with that kind of wild aggression you probably won't deal with it very well in a real situation.
