If you've actually recieved payment to fight then you are technically a pro. Go to any state that requires you to obtain a license to fight pro or amateur. The very first thing they ask is "have you ever been paid to fight". Ammy promoters get around this by calling it "travel pay" or what not. But they have to pay a flat rate across the board. If the promoters told you "I'll pay you [x amount] to fight this guy" and you accepted you just provided a service for a fee and are a profesional regardless of skill level.

Alot of guys get hung up this way. Shaddy promoters pay unsuspecting guys ammy level guys and feed them to their actual pro fighters to pad up their records. Some promoters just don't realize that paying a guy makes it a pro bout. I'd check to make sure your fight wasn't recorded. And if it wasn't I'd just keep the fact you got paid it under your hat.

You are correct, except that Arkansas is actually an exception, where it is legal to get paid up to $100 with amateur status (like I said, it isn't crap). It is the only state I know of where the state athletic commision actually is the sanctioning body for all amateur events.

For the record, I live and fight in Missouri, very close to borders of Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas; and regulations are very different in each place. I only receive travel expenses when I travel over 100 miles, and it is only for hotel and gas. I'm considering turning pro this year, but if I do, I'll likely fight in Oklahoma (who actually has no amateur MMA), and Missouri, as they both have some really decent pro organizations around here.

How does this not effect you outside of Arkansas??? I've fought in Jersey, Cali, Nevada, Colorado and New Mex and they all stipulate "you get paid you be pro". And it doesn't matter where you got paid or where you fought. I just can't see how you can fight in and get paid as an ammy in one assbackwards state and have it not class you as a pro in any other comissioned state.

Well to be honest, I don't really know. I just know that there are two different registration cards you can have, an ammy one, or a pro one, and as an ammy, you can get paid $100. If another promoter in another state wanted to refuse your amateur status, I suppose he probably could, but you coulnd't fight as a pro without still having to get licensed as one.

Does it stipulate that you can recieve "up to" or "no more" than $100. Because everywhere I've fought has that in their "travel" or "per diem" compensation rules. If it's worded that way then you are just getting "travel pay". Alot of promoters do this to fill their cards. Technically they are paying you. But only the approved amount aloted for travel or per diem.
