My name is Richard Whirley, and I have been involved in
jiu-jitsu for about 9 years. I was trained by Gary Brown and George Allen in
Lawrenceville, Georgia, and have competed in tournaments all over the southeast.
During my time with Mr. Brown and Mr. Allen, I have developed and progressed my
fighting game as well as my demeanor in everyday life. Fighting has been an
outlet for me during hard times, a constant for me during good times, and a
gateway to friendships that I would have otherwise never had. It was at Eagle
Boxing, Kickboxing, and Combat Jiu-Jitsu where I met my training partner and
best friend, Kenny Allen. Kenneth Lamar Allen was born on August 5, 1984 and
grew up in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Kenny earned one of the very few black belts
that Mr. Brown has ever given, and has fought all over the southeast. His
tenacious fighting style was a mirror of the way he lived his life outside of
the gym. Unfortunately, Kenny was taken by a bullet on December 9, 2003. He is
truly missed and remembered.
On May 27th, 2008, I was informed by my instructor, Gary Brown, that I had been promoted to the rank of Shodan (1st degree Black Belt) under his system of Mixed Martial Arts. It has been a long journey (over 9 years) since I started with Mr. Brown, and he has done more to shape my life outside of the ring than inside it. The way that his system of teaching has impacted my life could never be emphasized enough. Thank you, Mr. Brown.
You will notice that the style shown in these videos is not a
true Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. That is because our system has been developed
specifically for Mixed Martial Arts competition and self-defense. True Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu, in its core form, depends heavily on a gi and is based largely on
points. While it is a phenomenal sport, it is not the sport that we are focusing
on with this site. This site and these videos are dedicated solely to developing
your game in Submission Grappling and Mixed Martial Arts competition. Please see
our other sites if you are interested in Law Enforcement, Civilian Self-Defense,
or Rape Prevention. You can find their links
