Roger Huerta entering the Bellator Fighting Championships' Season 2 lightweight tournament is a good example of a signing that makes sense for everyone involved.
For Bellator, it gets a likable, charismatic fighter who's a recognizable name to mixed martial arts fans -- definitely the most recognizable member of the lightweight bracket. For Huerta, he enters a tournament in which he'll be favored to win the six-figure jackpot. And for the UFC, he's not a particularly big loss.
Before the longtime PRIDE veteran makes his DREAM debut, MMA Fighting caught up with Chonan to talk about his experience in the UFC and bringing his career back to Japan.
I contacted a source involved in the April 17 Strikeforce card on CBS to get his take on the recent rumors that have swirled in the mixed martial arts world about the UFC possibly putting on its own card on April 17 to counter the Strikeforce card, headlined by Dan Henderson vs. Jake Shields.
The source's reply: "I think the UFC is messing with us."
Chuck Liddell and Rich Franklin have agreed to meet at UFC 115 in June, MMA Fighting has learned. Several Internet reports surfaced over the past 24 hours stating that the light heavyweight fight would take place at the rumored UFN 22 in April, but as MMA Junkie first reported, the plan is for the fight to take place June 12 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The organization has yet to officially announce the fight or why Tito Ortiz will not be facing Liddell after all.
