I think we're closer than four or five years on the submissions part; I have only seen four submissions even get attempted regularly in MMA in the last couple years: Guillotine, RNC, Armbar, Triangle choke. Mike Thomas Brown starts to set up that Peruvian every single time he's on top of sprawl, and he has pulled off an Arm Triangle, but other than him...But yeah, I rarely see people try to pass guard, go for sweeps, go for subs...And most striking doesn't look like it hurts...So I think you're right.

I dont agree with this. You must not watch all that much MMA there are TONS of sweeps used in MMA its just that these guys are top level athletes so usually a sweep leads to a sweep which leads to standing up or what not. As for the submissions yes those are the basics that are seen ALL the time but ive seen alot of arm triangles, alot of d'arces here lately, the oma ALL the time, leg locks (which are used alot not successful often in MMA), I even saw a few people go for a mounted triangle. Its all there just not as widely used. I agree that the arts will streamline sooner than later but does that mean moves will start falling off? I dont think so. Will it be harder to land said moves? Absolutely but better defense brings better offense right?

Better defense restricts high risk offensive tactics. How many guys do you see actually pull off the peruvian, or rolling kneebar, or d'arce, or anaconda, or heelhooks, or pull off an omoplata to actual submission vs just to sweep???? I see them attempted over and over but I don't see many of those attempts turn out successful. You will see the odd flashy sub pulled off from time to time. But the sport in America is basically down to the bread and butter basics. Because they are lower risk/higher probability submissions.

If we scored like they did in Japan the higher risk and more technical submission would still be pretty mainstream because you get points for attempting them. But not in the USA. Trainers are really focusing on low risk/high probability submissions. why risk doing something a bit flashy or higher risk and wind up missing it, loseing position and gettin hammered??? US scoring is all based on dominance and damage. And top position is considered dominant.

Just look at Jake Shields's 5 round leg hump session with Jason Miller. All Shield's had was better wrestling. He couldn't do anything but hold Miller though. Because if Shields moved Miller would attempt something. Shields based everything off of being on top would win him the round.

Submission is the easy way out... I suggest you take it

that fight definately angered me. Miller deserved to win that he was so much more active and could just tell he wanted it more than Shields. I cant wait until Shields gets a taste of his medicine and Hendo pins him to the ground and pounds him out
